Black Sheep Farm is in southern Grey Country where we raise organic sheep and run a one acre vegatable CSA. Black Sheep yarns are made from the fleeces of its mixed Romney/Gotland flock, with the addition of mohair from Wellington Fibres’ mohair goats for added strength and softness. The sheep fleeces are given a first washing at the farm in Grey County, and then brought to Wellington Fibres in Elora, Ontario to be processed into yarns. All yarn colours are natural, reflecting the variety of shades found in our flock’s fleeces. Although we predominantly raise our animals for meat, wool from our ewes is a valuable by-product that we believe in making an effort to have processed, along with hides from slaughtered animals. We raise our sheep outside in the summer with rotational grazing practices, which increases carbon drawdown and regenerates grasslands and soil.
